Under the direction of the Medical Director, Director of Imaging
Services and Director of Patient Care Services, the RN – Radiation
Oncology is responsible for the delivery of excellence in patient
care through performing patient assessment for all population
age-specific patients to receive diagnostic testing or therapy.
Requires critical patient care and assessment skills as well as the
development of technical proficiency. Responsible for planning and
implementing interventions and goals, and evaluating patient care
outcomes. Exercises independent judgment and decision making within
the limitations and scope of practice. Provides patient
orientation, procedure explanation, and pre and post diagnostic
care to completion of test. Assists patients with basic patient
care needs. Responsible for proper maintenance of equipment,
accreditation, and Departmental Performance Improvement. Displays
professional, safe conduct in all interactions. Maintains positive
working relationships with staff, other departments, physicians and
peers. Displays conduct in support of CHI St. Luke’s Health

Operates technical diagnostic and therapeutic equipment in
performing a variety of Radiation Oncology specialty

Provides emergency care, notifying appropriate personnel and

Prepares equipment ensuring that equipment is operational, safe and
functioning according to safety standards.
Problem solves equipment failure and contacts service
representative regarding equipment problems.
Ensures that daily equipment and room maintenance is performed
during after each procedure, and that special precautions and
measures are performed to ensure infection control
Completes all quality checks and ensures that equipment logs are

Initiates nursing interventions and physician orders, recording all

competence in dosage calculations, drug interactions, implications,

Assists the physician during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
to promote optimal patient outcomes.
Monitors level of supplies and drugs within the
