This Mechanical Controls Engineer is a
member of the Systems and Controls Engineering Team and responsible
for developing control systems and algorithms for implementation
into Residential HVAC products. This role will have the
responsibilities detailed below and work as part of the team to
achieve the organization’s overall goals.
Core Job Responsibilities (others may be
- Work with product
development teams, control system engineering, and advanced
engineering to develop control systems and algorithms.
- Problem definition and
- System modeling using
tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow
- Feedback control
development and associated algorithms
- Simulation of proposed
- Rapid prototyping and
model in the loop testing
- Hardware in the loop
- Requirements development
and documentation for the control system and
- Performing Failure Modes
and Effects Analyses of algorithms.
- Develop design guidelines
and standards for documentation and communication of control system
- Work with reliability
engineering to develop standard reliability test plans around
control systems and algorithms.
- Work with enterprise
modeling teams to enhance simulation
- Work with testing lab to
order/build automated test setups in support of controls system and
- Bachelor’s Degree in
Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and at least 5 years
experience with mechanical or feedback control applications is
- Master’s Degree in
Engineering is a plus.
- Thorough thermal systems
knowledge (thermodynamics, psychometrics, fluids, heat
- Thorough understanding of
mechanical control system theory.
- Experience with
development tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, and
- Familiarity with
- Control system
flowcharting, state diagram creation, and algorithm
- Thorough understanding of
mechanical engineering principles and ability to apply to
- Experience with automated
test development and execution.
- Ability to create design
guidelines and standards.
- Problem assessment and
problem solving skills.
- Good verbal and written
- Works effectively in an
open consensus-oriented team environment.
- Conflict management
