Job Description:
The Clinical Coordinator directs and supervises the professional
and other staff members assigned to the department, supports and
interprets the mission of the hospital and promotes harmonious
relationships among nursing personnel, medical staff, ancillary
departments, patients and families. The Clinical Coordinator
provides for the delivery of care to a specific group of patients
and evaluates the quality of that care in a systematic fashion, in
order to improve care. The care is delivered within the framework
of hospital philosophy and approved budget, and in concert with
other departments and services within and outside of the hospital.
The Coordinator must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and
skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the
patients served. Responsibilities DUTIES, ACCOUNTABILITIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES: Identifies staff needs and develops an action
plan for development and implementation by assessing, planning,
implementing and evaluating services to meet the needs of the
customer. Demonstrates excellence in verbal and written
communication with the ability to assist all staff to improve their
communication abilities. Provides for the integration of patient
care services throughout the organization by coordinating all
services to provide and implement appropriate nursing and clinical
interventions. Assumes accountability for patient care delivery in
the department. To utilize specialized nursing knowledge and
discriminative judgement while giving indirect and direct patient
care. Facilitates pre-admission assessment and obtains; patient
health history (health status, health systems, current medications,
allergies, labs, EKG, X-ray), verifies and clarifies information.
Screens patient co-morbidities and other conditions that increase
the risk for surgery and refers such cases to Hospitalist Provider
for review and evaluation for the risks of anesthesia, relative to
the procedure to be performed. Discusses high risk patients with
physician as appropriate. Assures H&P is comprehensive and
dated within 30 days of surgery. Reviews results of H&P (i.e.
allergies, lab, x-ray, EKG) and notifies physician of any abnormal
results. Provides patient with pre-surgical information and
instructions by explaining; (but not limited to) facility admission
policies, date of admission, NPO requirements, pre-operative
medication instructions, etc. Coordinates with physician office
Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS (CONTINUED):
Education: HS diploma or Equivalent Graduate from an accredited
Certified Medical Assistant Program Experience: 6 months medical
clinic experience preferred Basic typing skills of 35 wpm Basic
personal computer skills and comfort with Microsoft Windows
operating system; database and word processing skills required
Basic math skills Strong verbal and written communication skills
Active listening skills Good problem solving skills Patient record
documentation skills Strong time management skills Ability to think
strategically and act tactically Ability to handle multiple tasks
at the same time Ability to embrace the patient relationship to
guide decisions and actions Medication administration. I.V.
Therapy, or current Medical Assistant Certification. Demonstrates
good team work Skills: The ability to perform routine blood draws.
The ability to perform routine ECG. The ability to perform standard
nursing assessment. Certification and Licensure: Basic Life Support
through American Heart Association or The Red Cross Medical
Assistant certification through National Healthcare Association
(NHA) or National Workforce Career Association (NWCA) Compliance

why. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Extensive walking and standing,
physical/emotional stamina. Exposure to communicable diseases and
biohazardous materials, danger of infection from contaminated
materials, falls on slippery floors; possibility of injury from
moving heavy equipment or patients ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Frequent exposure to blood and body fluids. Subject to varying and
