Pharmacist II - The staff pharmacist performs technical, clinical and consultative pharmacy services for Lufkin State Supported Living Center. These include DUR functions, dispensing functions, creating and maintaining records of services performed, performing quarterly Drug Regimen Reviews, participating in the drug inventory control system. In the absence of the Director of Pharmacy Services, the staff pharmacist serves as the acting Pharmacist-In-Charge (PIC) which may include some basic administrative duties. The staff pharmacist reports directly to the Director of Pharmacy Services. Essential Job Functions: Attends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location. 1. Interprets physicians' orders, screening for possible adverse reactions, polypharmacy and/or allergies (i.e., performs DUR). 2. Dispenses and verifies correct medications for safe use by patients and staff administering these medications to the patients. 3. Performs Quarterly Drug Regimen Reviews (DRR) or coordinates this activity. 4. Aids Director of Pharmacy in supervising pharmacy technicians to assure the workload is evenly distributed and priority matters are tended to quickly. 5. Provides professional pharmacy consultation services to allied professionals at LfSSLC as needed to provide for optimum pharmaceutical care for the population of LfSSLC. 6. Performs data entry tasks in order to update patient records, add new drug orders, fill out-patient labeled prescriptions (for resident going on furlough) or checks and verifies such data entry when it is performed by a technician. 7. Participates in the inventory control system by making sure that items are added to the as soon as they are used up or fall below par levels, maintaining additions and subtractions of inventory stock, and accounting for distribution. 8. Performs and submits medication variances. 9. Serves as acting Pharmacist-in-Charge in the event the Pharmacy Director is absent. 10. Rotates with other pharmacists taking after hours calls which require a pharmacists assistance. Knowledge Skills Abilities: Experience in institutional pharmacy Experience in Unit-dose drug distribution Experience in using reporting software, excel, outlook, and pharmacy dispensing software. Knowledge of pharmacology principles and procedures and of the laws and regulations pertaining to the receipt, storage, and dispensation of drugs. Registration or Licensure Requirements: Valid license to practice pharmacy in Texas. Position may be required to drive and require a valid Driver's License and eligible driving record based on HHSC Fleet Management policy. Applicants with an out-of-state driver's license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure or obtain a valid Texas Driver's License. Experience of 1 year as a pharmacist in any pharmacy setting Additional Information: Req ID 516430 The salary offered will follow HHS starting salary guidelines which are typically made at or near the minimum of the salary range. Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours.
