SUMMARY:The CRNFA practices in collaboration with and at the
direction of the surgeon during the intraoperative phase of the
perioperative experience DUTIES, ACCOUNTABILITIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:-------------- The CRNFA
applies the nursing process in all facets of the nurse first
assistant role.-------------- The CRNFA exercises critical thinking
skills in all aspects of the RNFA role.-------------- The CRNFA
establishes and maintains a safe perioperative
environment-------------- The CRNFA is able to provide technical
first assistance to the primary surgeon in the operating room and
throughout the perioperative period.-------------- The CRNFA works
as a professional colleague with the physician and to enhance the
effectiveness of patient care.-------------- Provides good customer
service by utilizing good communication skills and technical
knowledge to ensure UT Health and departmental objectives are
maintained.-------------- When not in the FA role has the ability
to either scrub or circulate.-------------- Provides FA training,
precepting, mentoring, peer review, and in-service
education.-------------- Attends weekly huddle and in collaboration
with the Clinical Manager and charge nurse, assigns FA's for case
coverage.-------------- Participates in quality monitoring and
performance improvement activities.-------------- Monitors and
evaluates emerging technologies and new products to determine risks
and benefits to patient and health care organization.--------------
Recommends and initiates policy and practice changes based upon
evaluation of outcomes.-------------- The CRNFA influences
multidisciplinary relationships by enhancing collaborative
